The Way It’s Meant To Be
As living beings we are designed in such a way that we are always learning. Our senses like sight, touch, hearing, etc. constantly pick up information that is then stored in our memory. So, be it willingly or unwillingly we are always gaining knowledge.
If this is the case, why not engage yourself in best way of gaining proper knowledge, i.e. education. This is the reason why I believe that people of all ages should constantly strive to educate themselves.
I read this in an ancient text that our learning life is divided into three ages namely: Karan, Ara and Narak.
Karan age begins the moment we are born. There is so much happening around us that we absorb everything little by little. Obviously, the first and the most essential thing we should learn is to communicate and hence learn the language most convenient. Here we must learn about the world in form of art and stories. This is to get us excited and fascinated to be born in this world. Stories can be of our present time in form of Geography, stories can be of the past in form of History, stories that add value to life from the fantastic mythical tales based in past and perhaps fantasy future.
This should help a kid establish trust in the source of knowledge which can be parents, relatives, friends or teachers. Also the kid must find his/her purpose before moving on to the next phase.
Ara age is when we let go the training wheels and explore the world of our choosing. Here through education and experience we must learn about practical things like personality development, skill development, management skills, social skills, etc.
Here we learn to live and enjoy the world and life. The key is to work to thrive but never feel obligated to do anything. It would be a sin to do anything that becomes regret in future when we are suppose to step into the third phase.
Narak age begins when we have lived a significant portion of life and gained a lot of wisdom along the way. Gaining wisdom is necessary because this is what qualifies us to be worthy of learning and practicing the sciences. Start with philosophy and move to the science of your choice namely: physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, astronomy, etc (Each subject deals with a realm of existence).
While doing that one must learn to give back to the society in form of writing books, teaching, social work or administrative work which includes being a king (Prime Minister).
I’d like to conclude by saying that, despite being 34-years-old I am teacher of sciences. This means that I am in the Narak age of life. But I am not old. Maybe educational (wisdom) age is different from biological age. You might not agree with this structure. Neither did I when I first read it. But since then it has been a great influence on my teaching career.
