No subject of study should feel boring. It isn’t if you are liking it. You will like it if you learn it the right way. But before doing any of that you should first develop an interest in it. When it comes to Astronomy it’s easy to develop an interest in that subject. Just have a good look at a clear night sky or see one of our neighboring planets or our moon through a telescope.
It doesn’t matter if you know anything about what you see or not. The starry night sky is one of those things that you can’t help but be in awe of it. It is beautiful. It’s mesmerizing. It will put you to ease. Pull up a reclining chair, lie down and just keep on staring at it until you fall asleep. So… did you like it? Are you in love with it? If ‘yes’ then let’s move on to the next step.
When you love someone you want to know them, right? Just like we do with people, be it with family, friends, idols, or a secret crush. Consider those stars, planets (a.k.a. celestial bodies) you see in the sky as someone you want to know. To get acquainted with. To befriend. To be able to talk to them and de-stress. Let them be your silent but good listeners.
Once you know them you’ll start talking to them better. Get inspired by them,
“Be like a star! Shine bright and overcome the darkness surrounding you.”
– light
Learn from them,
“Just keep on spreading love without expecting anything in return.”
-solar energy
Learn from their struggles,
“It’s a scary lonely world so keep your loved ones close.”
-gravity
Over time, if you do it right, ‘Stargazing’ will become your hobby and ‘Astronomy’ your passion. (You don’t have to make it your profession.) Once that happens, there’s no end to studying the mysteries and wonders of the heavenly sky. People did it for thousands of years before you and others will keep on stargazing for many millennia to come.
Although, a theory states that a time will come when Stargazing might no longer be a practice and Astronomy will be a subject limited just to the sun and neighboring planets. It’s scary but, for now, we don’t have to worry about that.
So… if you haven’t started exploring the subject yet, here are a few things you can do for starters:
- Know those you see in the sky by name: Constellations
- Read about their life: Stellar Evolution
