Once In A Dance Class

“Every child should have a talent they are good at besides academics.”

This is what Prakruti believes. That’s why she enrolls her six-year-old daughter Puja in a dance class. However, no matter what she does little Puja has no interest in dancing. Her mother starts taking her to the class herself. She starts sitting there throughout the class duration of two hours. Still, Puja puts no effort into the practice.

Although Prakruti is forcing her daughter, she herself is not a dancer. She has never danced on a stage in the thirty years of her life. When the teacher suggests leading by example Prakruti starts dancing next to her daughter.

Over time Puja starts skipping the class but Prakruti doesn’t. Being consistent over many months Prakruti not only becomes a good dancer but also loses a significant amount of weight to get into good shape. At the end of the six months program, Prakruti is the dancer who leads the class performance.

When Prakruti is given her dance certificate she is told to give a speech. Looking down from the stage she sees pride in her daughter’s eyes. Although little Puja never learned to dance, she has learned to appreciate her mother more. Regarding the speech, Prakruti doesn’t say much except this,

“Not just every child, even grown-ups should have a talent they regularly work on besides their profession.”
