YUVIAN TIME KEEPING

The intelligent humanoid species of planet Yugae called Yuv made a standard model for time keeping. It was primarily drafted in the original Drandt state who were the first to accurately calculate the movement of planet around the star. This was introduced locally in 3rd century and was universally accepted by 12th century. Following this system all the events are recorded in the Yuvian Calendar.

TIME

The shortest unit of countable time is called a Second (sec). The higher conversions are as follows:

60 seconds = 1 minute

60 minutes = 1 hour

24 hours = 1 day
This is the first naturally observable time where one day or one solar day is the time taken by the planet for the sun to return to the same position in the sky. It is different from the Sidereal day which is calculated with respect to the stars.

6 days = 1 week
The names vary from place to place but the number of days is constant everywhere. The most common nomenclature system is using the names of the planets in the solar system.

  1. Akarivaar or Akariday – This day marks the beginning of the week. It also marks the beginning of the month after every five weeks and beginning of the year after every sixty years.
  2. Drimvaar or Drimday
  3. Ariavaar or Ariaday
  4. Sakivaar or Sakiday
  5. Sikirvaar or Sikirday
  6. Kravaar or Kraday

The first and the last day of every week are together called ‘bridge days’ so as to indicate the cyclic motion of days. In some cultures these days are used to break the routine in order to allow the working class to enjoy life.

5 week = 1 month
This is another naturally observable time where one month is the time taken by the moon to go through its phases and the return back to the phase it began with.

12 months = 1 year
This is the final and the largest naturally observable time keep where the planet returns back to its initial position* after taking one revolution around the sun.

*Note: Studies show that the planet returning to its original position isn’t exactly accurate. With every passing year it ever-so-slightly moves closer to the star. But this difference isn’t large enough to cause a discrepancy in the time keeping.

The name of the month is aptly derived from the 12 constellations of zodiac based on which constellation the sun is at that point of time.

  1. Auvaru – The beginning of this month marks the beginning of the year. There is no astronomical significance for that. It’s just a decision taken by the by all the states of the world.
  2. Prakz
  3. Pliki
  4. Alga
  5. Dakro
  6. Lyali
  7. Palga
  8. Eizer
  9. Vima
  10. Gos
  11. Turp
  12. Zeka

All the further time keeps are in multiples of 10’s of years namely a decade (10 years), a century (100 years) and a millennium (1000 years).

REPRESENTATION

What you read above was the absolute time keeping formed purely by mathematical calculations. Time keeping has another aspect where time of a particular event is recorded in books. This requires the non-mathematical aspect of naming.

As decided the way to record the time of an event has two parts. First is time and second is date. The record of time in a day is also called Time. Here the timing is represented as:

12:32:56 (hours:minutes:seconds)

Now, the record of time more than a day is called Date. Here the smallest form is a day. The date is then represented as:

05/11/1463 (date/month/year)

The decade, century and millennium being multiples of ten need no separate representation, instead they are included in the year.

‘PRE’ PHASE

As mentioned above, this system was accepted universally in the 12th century. That is 1200 years from when they began counting. That’s not actually true. Each closed community had their way of counting prior to globalization. When time came to accept this universal theory, none could agree on the starting point.

So as a compromise, the strangest global event was considered to be the starting point of this calendar. It was called the Red Flash where momentarily the entire sky had turned red. But as per old records they had events that happened prior to this point. Hence these events were decided to be marked with ‘pre’ as a prefix to the unit like pre-year, pre-century, pre-millennium; along with reverse counting that began with the Red Flash event.

‘S’ PHASE

The Yuvian calendar lasted for 20 millennia, since the birth of species till the point where the biggest secret of their solar system was eventually revealed. To celebrate that event the calendar was rested and the counting began with a prefix ‘s’ in front of all dates.
