Building a Solar System – Day Two

Story begins from Building a Solar System – Day One

Getting the Approval

Building a solar system is not easy. Even for a god-like being that Sam Ace is, he cannot do it alone. It will be very time consuming. By the law of cosmic conversation one needs to generate a lot of data to build an entire solar system from scratch. Just consider the billions of people that exist and the life they live. All this have to be thought out in advance.

That’s how it is. Prior to creating a solar system, the entire narrative is to be decide. The structure of star and planets, description of all the species that exists on the celestial bodies, life story of all individual beings born and how one events lead to another and so on. Is that confusing?

Let me give an example. Imagine a cake. Think about it in great detail; how it looks, what are its ingredients, how it smells, tastes, etc. Imagine it to such an extent that you can feel its presence in front of you. Now, what cosmic conversion says is, “Whatever you imagine, if you imagine it hard enough, it will manifest in front of you, literally.”

This is what Sam is thinking while he is pacing back and forth in a hallway. Yesterday he discovered a place in empty space that he thinks is a perfect to build a solar system. As I said this is not a one man’s job. So to get help he needs to approach the Aveakosh High Council, a group of people who are responsible for taking the important decisions for the people of the Aveakosh faction.

“It’s hard to convincingly explain cosmic conversion to those who don’t understand it.” says Sam while he nervously stares at the door with a red light on it. Just through the door is a room where the council sits. He’s just waiting outside for the red light to turn green.

“Calm down Sam. These people are chosen to be on the council. They are wise enough to understand what you want to say.” says a guy sitting on a bench next to Sam. That’s his colleague named Ind Ral.

“How can I…? If only I could demonstrate CC in front of them. Can you call Aka, she will be able to demonstrate this concept very nicely.” asks Sam.

“No… She is finishing work on the shell.” replies Ind. Shell is the invisible wall of the pocket universe Sam had built on the first day.

“Oh yes… this structure is important. Protective spherical shell will hide the presence of our solar system from outsiders. But…” Sam pauses. “Can’t she just fly by for a couple of minutes?”

“No can do. She is building the base of operations in the shell so that we don’t have to communicate everything through the wormhole.”

Sam still insists on calling her but then there is a buzzer sound as the light turns green. “That’s your turn. All the best.” says Ind while they slap their hands together.

It’s a kind of handshake the Trimi species do. Due to lack of opposable thumb the handshake can’t be complete hence the hitting open palms with each other is what they do in any form of greeting. On that cheerful note Sam steps inside.

“Great, another day in the dark.”

The moment he steps in there’s darkness everywhere, just floating dim lights that barely illuminate the space like stars in the sky. This room is a tall cylindrical space with many doors on the bottom. Sam entered from one of them.

“Good to see you Sam. What news do you have for us today?” asks a female voice.

The voice is coming from somewhere high above. The cylindrical space on the bottom is totally empty except for some sand on the floor. The six council members are sitting in their chairs at least 10 meters from the floor in a sort of a balcony arrangement.

“Ah, yes. Good news. Sort of. I have a… kind of solut-. Maybe a planet won’t…”

“Sam, please speak properly.” says a councilman.

“And please rise before you speak.” adds another.

Sam is hesitating because he has never got any positive response to whatever he had to say in the past. Including the last time when he suggested the idea of simpler life. Unfortunately he has returned to propose this idea yet again. So he knows what to expect.

Acknowledging their request, Sam starts levitating and then rises high enough to be on their eye level. Not that he can make an eye contact. All the council members are sitting in dark with just their silhouette visible. This is to intimidate the people who come with foolish requests. Sadly, for Sam it is working.

“I’m here to propose an idea to start a new life. We can do it inside-”

“Hang on, didn’t he propose this idea before?”

Sam is interrupted yet again and the council members start talking to each other leaving him hanging.

“Yes he did and we rejected it.”

“What was it?… ‘let us forget what we know’ he said.”

“Yes. Hilarious. But we did point out a flaw in his idea. We’ll be vulnerable for an outside attack.”

“You didn’t, I did.” says a councilwoman. “Let’s just hear him first. Maybe he has something new to share.”

With her last words everyone go silent and look at Sam. There is complete silence for a while until Sam realizes that it is his cue to speak. Taking a deep breath of meditation, as a does when in difficult situations, he speaks,

“I know I have proposed an idea of simpler life before and I know the threats we might face. That’s why I suggest that we start a new life inside a pocket universe.” while he is speaking he remembers that he felt some sand under his feat on the floor.

Using his telekinetic abilities he raises some sand for a presentation. The sand takes the shape of what he is describing while being illuminated by the dim floating lights around him. “Yesterday, I found an empty place in space. Untouched by any advanced species.” while he spoke he made the pattern of constellations with sand to pin point the location, “Here we can create a solar system from scratch; a star, planets and complex life of our design.”

“From scratch?” interrupts one.

“Yes… by the law of cosmic conversation we can. CC is a law where we can create anything from our-.”

“We know what cosmic conversion is. We are not dumb!” he interrupts again.

Annoyed by interruption Sam says nothing. Sensing an odd silence the same council member says, “Sorry. Please continue.”

Acknowledging the request Sam resumes,

“I understand that even if we build a solar system in the empty part of space there is a fear of alien invasion. To protect us from that I have come up with this clever technology called pocket universe. As we speak, my colleague is refining the protective shell that will keep our solar system hidden from the outside world.”

Hearing this the council members start chatting with each other. They ask him to wait until they come up with a decision. Stepping outside Sam is very confident. Not that he blindly believes they will approve his project. The thing he considers an obstacle is to properly convey the message to the members. He’s happy that he did that efficiently.

While he is outside he establishes connection with Aka Rai through a tiny tennis-ball size wormhole. “What’s the update?” Sam asks.

AKA: Done with building the control room and other CC mechanism. Right now I am working on the accommodation.

SAM: What accommodation?

AKA: A place for hundred thousand souls.

SAM: Why do we need that many people?

AKA: Sam! we did talk about this… we need at least 100,000 times the brain power to build a fully functioning solar system in one day. Do you expect me to spend my entire life just designing rocks.

SAM: I understand… But 100,000. Isn’t that expecting a too much.?

AKA: For building a stadium, yes; but for building a solar system that is the only way for them to survive, I don’t think so.

SAM: But…

AKA: Hey! Don’t piss me off. Get it done!

Sam hangs up the communication that instant quickly collapsing the wormhole. There was a time when Sam was Aka’s boss. Back then she wouldn’t have dared to raise her voice in front of him but now things have changed after their trypling (kind of like a marriage). Fortunately Sam understands the weight of responsibility she has on her while she builds the shell.

Up until this call Sam was celebrating his victory, but she has got him worried again. The wait for red light to turn green seems very long. When it finally happens Sam steps inside again.

When he enters the cylindrical council room again, strangely it isn’t that tall anymore. The council members are sitting just a couple of meters above Sam even when his feet are touching the floor.

“You will be happy to know that we have approved this project of yours.” says a man.

“…and we are willing to provide help in anyway possible.” adds another.

“I’m glad you said that.” replies Sam, “because I need something…”

Sam hesitates because he knows getting these many people to be a part of the project on a charity basis in not possible. Still he fears what Aka would say and so he speaks,

“We will need some souls to work on our project. To finish it in time.”

“How much?”

“A hundred thousand.” Sam replies.

“A what?!”

“How many did he say?!”

All council members are shocked to hear him say the number. “That’s preposterous!” one adds followed by them starting to chat with each other ignoring Sam.

While Sam watches the council members losing confidence in his idea, he can literally see the gap between him and the council members increasing as wall grows taller to what it was before. But that’s just his hallucination.

“The number is just too high.”

“We are not like other factions.”

“We can’t just make our people work as slaves.”

“Why does he need that many people anyway?” finally some positive criticism. So they turn to him to ask this, “What do you need a hundred thousand souls for?”

Sam has to choose his next words very carefully. He has faced failure before, that’s not his problem. He fears being on the receiving end of Aka’s wrath.

“Since you know the law of cosmic conversion, you know that one must imagine the structures and narrative in detail to make it exist. A solar system is such a large structure that we need that much computing capacity.”

“Ok, but that number is too high!”

“It has to be if we are to build it in a shorter time span.”

“But no one will agree to it unless you pay.”

“Pay?!” Sam gets annoyed, “With all due respect, you do understand that we are doing this for the survival of our species. I’m not building a castle for myself!”

For the first time Sam is raising his voice. He doesn’t hesitate anymore to question the council members as well. They continue to argue with each other as the woman on the council quietly watches them. After some time she jumps in to make them stop.

“Calm down Sam. We know you are doing a noble deed but we can’t force people to work for you…”

“But-“ Sam interrupts.

“…please let me finish.” she adds, “This whole conversation we just had, I sent it to our official news channel and to our allied factions. While you guys were arguing it went on air and people were asked to come forward and volunteer for this project.”

Saying this she takes a pause to let this information seep in their brains. Hearing this some of the council members get uncomfortable in their seats realizing that everyone heard everything. To that she later assured those council members by saying that people got to hear an edited version of this conversation.

She continues, “We didn’t get any response from our allied factions. But what we got from our local news channel, twenty thousand souls have volunteered to work with you.”

Sam is happy to hear the number twenty thousand. It is a lot by his expectations, but it is far from what his colleague Aka asked for. Still he agrees to that number and steps out of the council room after thanking them.

On his way out Sam said to himself, “It’s stupidity to think that a hundred thousand souls will agree to this project right away. But how will Aka react when I tell her this number. Maybe…”

He gives out a sinister smile, “…maybe the person breaking this news doesn’t have to be me.” saying this he sees his colleague Ind smiling back at him.
