A dream engine is any technological device / hallucinogenic herb that triggers the brain to simulate a world by constructing it in form of a dream. Complex brains naturally work as basic dream engines which allow people to dream while they sleep. But the natural dreams are volatile, unstable, and unpredictable. Also the memory retention of these dreams is pretty low.
The special herbs concoction works better than natural dreams. These dreams are detailed, specific and easy to remember. Still this doesn’t allow full control over the events of the dream. This was a common practice during the pre-technology age of planet Yugae. In those days, kingdoms had intelligent dreamers who were put under this process to plan out the full war strategy by dreaming about the war.
A technological device gets rid of all the shortcomings of the herbs. Once hooked on to the brain it can feed in additional data to create a simulated dream world. This way they can be made to look as good as real which will fool the brain as well. There were many versions dream engines invented over the span of many millennia. The most perfect and safest form of a dream engine is one called Svapnayuya.
Svapnayuya was a dream engine built by an intelligent woman named Dr. Rekha Arya. She dedicated her life to invent this device that could put people under a forced dream scenario of her choosing and let them live a life while their body stayed in stasis. This was used for long duration interstellar travels.
A couple of centuries prior to Svapnayuya existed another technology that simulated a world called Pocket Verse (eg: Immortality Verse). Although this technology was much more advanced than Svapnayuya, using this led to many psychological complications and hence it was regarded as unethical.
Use of it was entirely stopped the people of that time made sure that this technology was forgotten. Hence Dr. Rekha Arya had to re-invent this technology from scratch when the need of it arise.
