Wall of Knowledge was an Arsa state government initiative introduced in the year 1924 to promote education in the post-independence era.
Here they had started a practice to print the basic educational content in small packets of information and post on walls of government owned structures, all over Arsa state, to provide its general public with essential knowledge.
HISTORY
For almost two long centuries Arsa state was a colony under the Drandt Sul Company when it was drained of its valuable resources. The evil colonizers not only stripped them of their riches but also deprived its people of basic essential knowledge.
Under their rule Arsa residents learned only to read that would be sufficient to do their assigned laborious low level jobs. Some were taught to write only if there was a requirement for it.
Result of this at the time of independence most of the adult population of Arsa remained uneducated.
PROBLEMS
The new government was facing many challenges when they were handed over the control of the state:
- The syllabus taught in schools distorted the view of the students as to what is right and what is wrong.
- There weren’t sufficient educational institutions all over the state to educate the entire populace.
- There weren’t enough teachers in Arsa who were qualified enough to teach others.
FOUR POINT PLAN
The Arsa government realized that educating the masses should be their priority. As per the need they made a four point plan.
- Form a committee the compile all the knowledge that is considered as essential.
- Group information topic-wise such that each topic fits in on standard size printed page.
- Make sets of water proof durable printouts and distribute it all over the state.
- Stick it on walls for the public to read and be educated by it.
This system was the precursor to Arsa State Intranet.
It would be an exaggeration to say that it was a very successful initiative but at least this knowledge enabled people to solve their basic day-to-day problems by themselves until proper schools were setup all over the state.
