Death on a Road

One afternoon, a sixty-eight years old man named Ekranth Nair was found dead. He was walking on an empty road, suddenly he collapsed and died on the spot. The old man’s body was taken to a hospital and the police were called. After some time, a man arrived at the hospital with his wife and a little boy to claim the body, saying, “He’s my father.”

The doctor refused to release the body as they suspected foul play.

“Although the cause of death is cardiac arrest… heart attack, the police have asked us to test for poison.” said a nurse.

The son was shocked, “Why would anyone kill him… no debt, no property issues and he was nice to everybody.”

It took one day for the test results to arrive. As expected the results came negative and the body along with the belongings was released. The reason for suspicion was that a suicide note was found in the old man’s pocket. When the police asked the son about it. He said, “I don’t know.”

He might be telling the truth still he did know something related to suicide that he did not tell.

A few months back, Ekranth’s son lost his job. After many bad interviews he tried to commit suicide. Fortunately/Unfortunately he failed at that too. This information seems unrelated but it became relevant once the son read his father’s note.

It was a long emotional heartfelt letter addressed to everyone in the family. But for this story the only line that matters is the one he addressed directly to his suicidal son,

“…now you know how losing someone feels like.”
