Creation of this game dates back to 99th pre-century of the Yuvian calendar. This is the time when the first beings to walk the planet Yugae, the Prasthayi, still lived.
After a century long solo lives, these intelligent humanoid beings came together and started living as a community. Different jobs were allocated to different people so they could specialize in that job and do it more efficiently. Plus this encouraged more social interractions.
One of the allocated jobs were to gather big tough rocks to carve out things from. Things like construction material, furniture, utensils, decorative items, etc. The river side plain on which the Prasthayi built their village had soft soil. Hence, the only source of such large rocks were the high barren mountains of the north. Getting rocks from there was a laborious task and only the muscular tough beings of the community had the capacity to break big pieces and carry them to the settlement area.
These selected people did their job enthusiastically for a few days but soon they got bored as the need for more rocks kept on increasing with every passing day. Hence they often had to work longer hours. Noticing their losing interest the main man of the village, Mukhyam, decided to turn it into a game.
The game was simple, all the participants will stand on top of the hill. When their time starts they will start crushing the rock. They smoothed the southern side of the hill with mud to make a slope that the rocks could simply role down off and get collect at the bottom stopping point. The person who finished their quota of rocks first got a special prize.
This worked like a charm as more rocks were collected in a morning couple of hours than in an entire day with the old method. It was fun not only for the participants but also for those who watched the game.
Initially it was not expected for there to be an audience but with time the number of people gathering at the bottom to see the rocks collecting game was huge. Whenever a big rock came rolling down, they would cheer,
“Wheeee!”
That’s how the game got its name, as the creator of this game didn’t care to name it when he first introduced it to his people.
THE END
FUN FACT: When the wheel was invented by these people, it got its name from this game.
