We consider Science to be the laws of nature that govern everything that exists in the universe. Even though we are still in the process of understanding them still we consider them to be the absolute truth. That’s why we call them ‘laws’ and not ‘theories’.
We believe that these laws of nature are not something to be tampered with or that we can’t bend these defined rules. Everything that exists and happens in the universe must follow them. When we observe any phenomenon that defies these rules we blame our lack of knowledge and then adjust the laws accordingly.
If in the distant future we learn how everything in the universe works still will that be enough? My question is why do these laws of nature exists? Why do we need science? Can we ever figure that out?
My theory is that our universe is created to tell stories. From the event of big bang to the event of a farmer plowing his field. All these are just stories. I think based on the kind of stories we want to tell, the laws of nature are made accordingly.
Consider our movies. When we watch a movie most of the times we know it very clearly what stories are possible and what stories are not. Some of the scenes in the movie as we say are ‘clearly exaggerated’. What we mean by that is, such events can’t happen in the real world.
Like breathing in space. If an astronaut on the space station removes her helmet when she goes outside for some maintenance, she will die for sure. We know that somehow. We argue that there is no atmosphere in space and just the vacuum will kill her instantly.
But… what if I say that she survives walking in space without any protective equipment. The reason I give for this argument is that the story needs her to survive. Now, my words are meaningless, I am not God to make this happen. But what if God says that? What if God says that I want her to survive.
I think the rules of nature can be altered to fit this narrative. Certainly an omnipotent being can do it. If this is not possible in our real world, at least I can make it possible in my Rexal World.
